Before you buy another software tool, ask these 5 questions

1. What exact problem does this solve?

If you cannot say it in one sentence, you are shopping for relief from anxiety — not for a tool. Write the problem down first.

2. Who will own it day to day?

A tool without an owner becomes another login nobody opens. Name the person before you buy.

3. What does it replace?

If nothing gets turned off, complexity only goes up. New software should retire a spreadsheet, inbox ritual, or second app.

4. How will you know it worked in 30 days?

Pick one measure: fewer missed follow-ups, faster quoting, less evening admin. Vague “efficiency” is how subscriptions linger.

5. What if you wait 90 days?

Sometimes the honest answer is to clean the process first. Automating a mess just makes the mess happen faster.
